The Hertz Corporation, a subsidiary of Hertz Global Holdings, Inc., operates the Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty vehicle rental brands in approximately 9,700 corporate and franchisee locations throughout North America, Europe, The Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The Hertz Corporation is one of the largest worldwide airport general use vehicle rental companies, and the Hertz brand is one of the most recognized in the world. Product and service initiatives such as Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, Carfirmations, Mobile Wi-Fi and unique vehicles offered through the Adrenaline, Dream, Green and Prestige Collections set Hertz apart from the competition.



The Challenge

A new implementation into Oracle EBS R12.1.3 from legacy JDEdwards and years old Custom Mainframe applications is a challenge for business. Even though an approach of, complete UAT test cycle, train the trainer and documentation were in place, there are lot of issues and stabilization problems both at the corporate office and field divisions. Stringent deadlines to stabilize the live environment before bringing the Thrifty and Dollar Systems as new Operating Units made the business Transformation and Stabilization project even more Crucial. Identified issues ranged from integration problems, pending Cash Management reconciliation for all the months since go-live, Manual intervention in payment processing and invoice imaging solution form Kofax, AME not established and manual approval for all invoice sources, Reporting and reconciliation problems, Manual reclassification of JEs from Suspense accounting for period close, 1099 and Year end Close process issues, Mass Allocation formula definition and validation are the main among many others.

The Solution

Group of 8 Surge team members were formed to drive the stabilization which has an agile approach to address and resolve the issues quickly and efficiently, while training the end users. The approach is to automate wherever possible, give end users more flexibility by giving easy accessibility of required data, reporting redesigned using BI Publisher in spreadsheets and financial reports using FSG and Reports Manager, integration redesign and Solutioning for advanced notification and automation.

Among the other activities, working with the end users, managers, internal IT team and process owners to redefine the business processes within Oracle EBS R12 instance for stabilization is considered as major part of the solution. The intended result of this project is to unleash the capabilities of the world’s most prominent ERP financial system “Oracle EBS??? for giving the users more time and flexibility to make appropriate decisions that drive business stability and expansion.
